Day Four
We managed to get out of Chicago on the longest route possible, only later discovering that the car's GPS had been set to avoid toll roads. It's amazing to me that the previous owner was willing to pay for a  Sequoia, but didn't want to pay tolls…It totally messed us up and took us to Milwaukee instead of Madison, a more direct route to the Dells! So that drive took longer than expected, are you sensing a pattern here?
But we did have an excellent stop at the Mars Cheese Castle:

Where we didn't actually buy any cheese but we did get a good bumper sticker that says Eat Cheese or Die for the Thule (that promptly fell off). Rosie put it up:

And then we got to the Kalahari:

This was Max's most anticipated spot on this trip-the Wisconsin Dells-where we stayed at the Kalahari Resort and Water Park. He had chosen Kalahari as his location, the place that he was supposed to research and educate the rest of us on.  Since there isn't much in the way of educational information on a waterpark, he made a huge, totally undo-able list of things that we had to do in the time that we had there and then he did his best to do them all. That did not include hanging out at the Great White Bar. My brother, Dan, his wife, Heather, and our niece, Flannery, drove up from Madison to hang out with us for the afternoon and evening which was great.

Emma had decided that she wasn't going on the water slides but Dan managed to coax her on to a few and then she was hooked. She went on this purple slide that was (I think) a very small enclosed tube about 15 times. The thought of it makes me want to barf,  but she had a ball. Max is unable to come up with a favorite spot, he just loved it all.
Heather and I sat by the pool and had foofy drinks (in all fairness, she went on the slides first.).
We found a great restaurant in the town of the Dells called High Rock Cafe and had a delicious meal that included vegetables. Chris had more fun than this picture shows, honestly.

This was Emma's dessert. It was a vanilla cupcake with chocolate chip cookie dough inside, vanilla icing, Oreo crumbs and whipped cream. Too much, even for me!

We walked along the river to get a sense of the amazing rock formations that make up the Dells:

Then off to bed after a quick trip to the Laser Tag for Max and Chris.

  1. I hope you're contemplating how to duplicate Emma's dessert when you're taking circuitous routes to your next destination. Definitely worthy of a Bachelor evening!

  2. We should have stayed longer
